Beef for Thanksgiving
Friday, November 23rd, 2007Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I spent mine in Altus, Oklahoma with the family of a girl named Virginia, that I found on couchsurfing.com
We celebrated by shooting off some guns, my first handgun, and with a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. I suprised Virginia’s cousin, who was in the army, with my deadly accuracy. It seems that hours of first person shooters have left me with some wicked aim.
It was different to spend Thanksgiving without my family, but the hospitality of Virginia and her family made me feel right at home.
Things continue to go well, especially when I have a place to stay thanks to couchsurfing. I got to spend Oklahoma’s 100th birthday with some cool college kids in Chickasha. Some latest adventures include pushing an old man in an electric wheelchair up a hill, and putting out roadside brushfires. My longest day of walking in a while was a few days ago when I walked 27 miles with only one half hour break.
I will continue west tomorrow. I only have a few days of Oklahoma left before I’m in Texas. Since I came so far south to get to here, I’ve decided to go farther south through Texas and New Mexico. This should keep me safe for a while as it continues to get colder and the days get shorter. Hopefully I can finish my walk without any more long breaks, but I am considering taking a break for Christmas.
