Comedy Trek FAQ

Why are you walking across America?

This is a simple question that warrants a complicated answer.

I want to make a movie from my experience, and I hope that the product that results from this will be reason enough to have done it.

As for why I chose to walk instead of taking a bike or roller skating.  It’s mainly because I wanted the adventure to take a considerate amount of time.  Biking across the states can be accomplished in 2 months.  You also experience so much more, and have more 1 on 1 interation with people when walking.

Walking is a completely healthy and environment friendly mode of transportation. This is especially important this summer when global warming is at it’s best, and gas prices continue to sky-rocket as the war in Iraq continues.

This walk is my comedy pilgrimage. I am going from the land of stand-up New York City, to the movie capital of the world. The hardest part about being a comedian is to get your name out there, and I figure this will give me the opportunity I need to make a name for myself. I also think I will get some hilarious stand-up from the experience.

If I make any money from this I want to give a lot of it to charities, and towards future projects.

How long do you expect this to take?

I’m really in no hurry. I want to take my time, but if I average 16 miles a day the trip should take 6 – 8 months.

Update: It took me 100 days of walking to go 2,000 miles.

Who is going with you?

?
Where do you sleep?

Wherever possible.  I carry a tent so if need be I can throw my tent up anywhere there’s open ground.  I’ve camped under bridges, on golf courses, people’s backyards, state parks, and rv campgrounds.  When available I use couchsurfing.com to find places to stay, and sometimes in motels to catch up on hygiene.

How are you going to fund this trip?

Right now I have some money saved up, but not enough to make it the whole way. I plan to make money along the way by selling artwork that I do during the trip. Also with tips earned during performances, donations from anyone, merchandise sales, and sponsorships.

I have never really liked money, and I hope that people will help me along the way, in exchange for laughs, or rockin banjolele songs.

What do your parents think about this?

I know my parents are scared for my safety, but they support me following my dream. Sup mom’n’dad, if you’re reading this.

What are you shooting this on?
DV, with some film and animation mixed in.

How many pairs of shoes have you gone through?

4 different pairs of shoes from the start in NYC.  One pair I wore from Indianapolis to Oklahoma City.

Where do you walk?

I typically walk on secondary highways that run parallel to interstate.  Some roads I have walked on played important roles in the formation of the United States.  Route 30 which I took for 200 miles across Pennsylvania was heavily traveled during the Civil War.  Route 40 I followed from Pittsburgh to St Louis known as the Historic National Road  was a covered wagon road.  From St Louis I followed route 66 for close to 500 miles, known as the mother road, it expanded the nation to the Pacific Ocean.

Seldomly I will follow walking trails, which I find boring.
